# Dachshund Wheelchair for Back Legs | Built for Long-Spine Breeds

Most dog wheelchairs are built for generic small breeds. Dachshunds aren't generic — and this wheelchair is designed around that.

## Who this is for

This wheelchair is built for Miniature, Standard, and Kaninchen dachshunds who have lost full or partial use of their hind legs. It's suitable whether your dog is in active recovery, has permanent hind leg weakness, or needs long-term daily mobility support. If your dachshund is dragging their back legs, struggling to stand, or no longer able to walk unassisted — this is what it's designed for.

## Why standard wheelchairs don't fit dachshunds

A typical small dog wheelchair is built for a breed with roughly equal height and body length. Dachshunds are anatomically different in almost every dimension: their body is typically twice as long as it is tall, their legs stand just 4–9 inches from the ground, and their chest is deep and barrel-shaped rather than narrow.

A standard frame placed on a dachshund sits too high, forces the spine into an unnatural arch, and puts pressure on the wrong contact points. This wheelchair uses a lower, longer frame geometry calibrated specifically for dachshund body ratios — not adapted from another design.

## Built for real daily use

**Adjustable in every direction — without tools**
Height, length, and width all adjust via push-button. No screwdrivers, no re-assembly. This matters because a wheelchair that's even slightly off will cause your dog to compensate with poor posture — adjustability lets you dial in the fit as your dog's condition or weight changes.

**Open rear design**
The hindquarter area is fully open, so your dog can urinate and defecate without removing the wheelchair. This is particularly important for dogs with reduced bladder or bowel control.

**10-second quick-release buckle**
The harness connects and disconnects in a single motion. Most owners put the wheelchair on two to three times per day — this makes it genuinely quick enough to not be a barrier.

**Removable foot slings**
Attach when your dog needs full hind leg suspension. Remove when they have enough ground contact to move more naturally. The same frame supports both configurations.

**Lightweight aluminum frame**
Total frame weight: under 2.5 lbs for XS. Heavy enough to be stable, light enough that your dog isn't fighting the frame to move.

**Shock-absorbing wheels**
Work on carpet, hardwood, grass, and pavement without adjustment. The wheels absorb surface irregularities rather than transmitting them to the harness contact points.

**Upgradeable to full quad support**
If your dog's front legs also need support down the line, the front leg attachment connects to this same frame — no need to buy a new wheelchair.
